Topiary

Palm trees grow slowly and don’t compete well with surrounding plants. This means that to grow them in your garden they need to be given quite a bit of soil space. As a general rule dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root so that there is plenty of room for growth.

Generally, they do not react well in the winter time unless they are given some additional protection so throughout the colder months it is best to wrap them with foil, bubble wrap, or any material that will help to protect them against the damaging climate.

If the tree is being grown in a pot then bring it into the house or conservatory while it is too cold outside for them.

Whereas most trees prosper best when they are outside with the rest of the greenery, palm trees grow more if they are kept in a small container. Although you might think that they would quickly grow too large for the container, you will be surprised how long they can sit comfortably inside one. Note that the pot used needs to allow free drainage.

Whereas other trees can be pruned, this is not possible with a palm tree. The great advantage of this is that they are relatively easy to maintain. Dead leaves will occur but they can easily be pulled off or they can be left to drop off by themselves.

Like most trees, they need to be watered regularly and given the right nutrients to be kept in the best condition.

I just received the Chusan Palm I ordered from you. It's gorgeous! It's even bigger than I expected!! I've just ordered a tree fern and cordyline from you- if they are the same quality I know I won't be disappointed. Thank you very much!!! I would recommend you to anyone.
